Recovery Rates
Recovery rates work as follows:
For hit points, the recovery rate is 1/10th of total hit points per day of complete rest.
For spiritual energy, the recovery rate is 1/10 of total energy points per hour of rest.
Compared to many games published in the last 15 years, the days of recovery for hit points may seem extreme. Picture, however, someone stepping off of a curb, getting hit by a car and being revived by paddles the entire way to the emergency room. It would be nothing short of a bona fide miracle for that person to leave the hospital ten days later in perfect health. It is ludicrous to think of a character being brought to within one point of death, taking a power nap, and being ready to take on a small troop of goblins. Note, however, that this recovery rate can be drastically sped up by means of magic and skills. Besides healing magic, if a person has a skill related to healing (Herbalism, First Aid, etc.), then the GM should let that player use the skill to reduce the time of recovery.
Spiritual energy recover doesn't require sleep, per se, but it does require non-activity. If a character is keeping watch in camp by sitting and listening for strange noises, that wouldn't interfere with energy recovery. However, if the player gets up to go investigate a strange noise, there will be no further energy recover until the player is again at a complete rest.
